This is where I will be going if and when I get the 'oil in harness issue'.

I would clean the loom as described in several posts and just replace the harness.

I would like them to explain exactly what their so called modification is to this harness. They do not on their website and magnifying the picture it is exactly the same as the harness everyone else is selling and the same as the 3 I currently have. 2 that have had contamination issue and a new unit. Now unless they are using different photo I would suggest you enquire and have confirmed what the modification is. Unless they have been sealed at all point oil can still get in.
I have sealed my new unit and will see how that goes. ATM there is no oil at the connector plug, but having said that the first one I replaced lasted 4 years before contamination occured again and this appears to be about the norm around every 80,000kms. Yet the last one I replaced was supposed to be the so called improved design going by the part number.
I would seek clarification as to what exactly the modification is. I do know mine is sealed about as good as you are going to get it without professional sealing of the plugs and wires. Why it is not a sealed unit to start with is anyones guess.
This is where the three bond sealant works a bit better as it runs into the gaps better than most RTV that is too thick.

    Good questions Craig!
I will ask them what their modifications are when I eventually order one?
And hopefully there is some sort of long term warranty.
I only thought of them because at least they aknowledge the issue and claim to have made some attempt to address it unlike most other suppliers online.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

When the oil gets to to the ECU we would always replace the main engine loom too. We would fit and injector loom, rocker cover gasket & main loom. The main loom is modified to prevent oil getting to the ECU. It has a built in low point and a tab that draws the oil away from the loom.

I have a couple of Defender main looms (with air-con, to chassis 1A622423) that I can do for £250.
