I have a mate with Bighorns and really like them. I'd like to run them next round, but I see Maxxis recommend a 7.5 inch rim as minimum. Internet tyre calculators suggest 6.5 as a minimum, and I have 6.5 wolfs.
I have heard of people running them on 6.5" but am in a pondery as to buy new rims, get mine widened, of just run them as is. Obviously the last being the prefered.
We do a fair bit of play at 22 - 25psi, do you think you'd roll them would occur more on a small rim. You thoughts

I would double check that, sounds like a typo, IIRC BFG quote 7.5 inch as the maximum width 6.5 being the minimum.Quote:

As Tony said you are looking at the maximum width, minimum rim width with the 762's is the same as the BFG MT and Cooper ST in that size, 6.5".Quote:

Thanks guys that's good to here regarding the 6.5" rims.
I got the min width from a printed brochure I grabbed at the counter of a tyre shop. It suggest for MT 762 big horn's min 7.5, max 9". It could well be a typo, or even relate to another country. However I can't find any info suggesting it is for any country on it.
If people have been doing it for years with good results than I am happy with that.

I have Maxxis 255s on the 130, they aren't exactly quiet but otherwise a good tyre. The tyre shop went with the rim fitment chart and I had to buy 16 x 8 rims. Minimum recommended rim width is 7.5. I still have the 6.5s and would have liked to use them but this and the tubeless thing prevented this. No rubbing issues. They work well on sand once deflated as well as mud etc.

There is no way on God's green earth you'd get a 255 out on the bead of a 9" rim, some 265/75's are hard enough to mount on an 8" rim.
[edit] I just checked the US Maxxis site and the fitting rim width is 7" http://www.maxxis.com/AutomobileLigh...2-Bighorn.aspx which usually means you can go 1/2" either way in width on 4WD tyres.
The Oz importer (IIRC it's Tyremax) have published the wrong (and potentially dangerous) data if they call for 7.5" to 9.0" rims
Mentioned that to the tyre shop guy, couldn't convince him though. Also the Maxxis seem wider than Cooper or BF that I've seen (yair...same size). I'd have prefered them on 7s. Seem to fit fine on an 8 but can't picture them on a 9.
