td5 rev counter sense wire colour from ecu

    hey guys

i got a rev counter from corytech ages ago and I was about to put it in.

only problem is i lost the instructions they sent with it.

    very annoying!

anyone have a clue what colour the sense wire for the rev counter on the ecu is?
pink with white stripes rings a bell... but that's just a guess.

it's in a 2000 defender but i imagine the colour would be the same for all td5's?

    Thanks

When I fitted mine I read of various colour wires. Mine was pink yellow but some state that white grey is the wire. Whatever colour it is it will be on pin 19 on the ECU plug. I have some instructions (not that you need them) on the fitting. PM me if you do though.

wow. it seems i only ever rev the defender to 3000 rpm.

and i thought that was giving it heaps.

where can a td5 be safely reved to?

Max is, I think, about 4500. I've never dared try that though. It should just cut out if you over rev, although it would be kind of expensive to find that it didn't! The thing with revving it real high under load will be the EGTs will rocket but unless your monitoring them you wont know that. Would recommend you monitor them as that too is illuminating and will probably change your driving style.

I found the same when I put a tacho in, hadn't really been taking it past 2700. Then I spent a few weeks rinsing the engine, 3000 - 3500 got tired of it, now I don't really take it past 2700, sounds great but theres just no need I find theres lots of power between 1650 and 2500.

I think the tacho is most useful off road to keep it in the torque band (max torque is pretty low down) it helps to subdue the red mist you can get attempting to rev the tits out of it for no good reason.

Mostly I enjoy the fact that (since the clock has gone) its the needle on the dash that is both believable (unlike the temp, fuel and speedo - none of which tell me the truth just an approximation) and moves with some urgency.

    thanks.

yeah b4 I had the tacho... what i thought sounded like revving it to the max is only 3000ish rpm.

driving her as i normally i only go to about 2500rpm.

    thankyou all for your help
