Don't know why I kept putting new cambelt off for so long.Crank bolt came undone with a cheater bar,the length that just clears the bonnet.Pulley slid off without use of the puller.Seeing there was no flange on the crank gear the damage to the belt was minimal with only a bit of fibre which looked worse due to bottom oil seal leaking....making a right mess.Fitted a kit and new seals and the O ring,so should be good for a few more years.Seemed a straight forward job easy done in a day, only thing that that may be slightly out is that the pump pin did not slide loosely in and out....bit of a tight fit.....but it starts ok,so I left it as is.

To tighten the crank nut,I used the bodged up pulley holder and a length of water pipe over the normal 1/2" drive bar.....had the length as high as the open bonnet would allow....and then gave it heaps also had a run of blue loctite on the bolt,as a bit of insurance! As you can see the belt is pretty good, minimum amount worn off, probably only the teeth that protrude over the edge of the belt[nicely blackened from the leaking oil]
I have no idea when it was last changed, but when I put a new head on this vehicle a couple of years ago,I noticed that no1 piston had no markings on it,possible damage due to belt failure...certainly the old head had a few indentations on no1.Hence the reminder of the potential damage from this thread!41833[/ATTACH41836TACH]41837
