Hi, although I am basically happy with Discovery I was wondering if there is an inexspensive way to improve the 300tdi performance without affecting it's reliability. I am new to this forum and have little knowledge concerning Land Rovers or turbos Thank you for any help lucky lozza.

its easy to get the TDI to match a base spec TD5 HOWEVER...
if you pooch it you can easily fry the donk. Before you go tickling the pump I strongly reccomend that you fit a EGT gauge and a boost gauge and do plently of research. If that warning makes you think that Im trying to scare you off of doing it or that you dont want to risk it as a DIY you could take it to a diesel workshop or ask about if there's someone localish to you thats done it and is willing to give a hand.

For spelling call Rogets, for mechanicing call me.
Fozzy, 2.25D SIII Ex DCA Ute
TdiautoManual d1 (gave it to the Mupion)
Archaeoptersix 1990 6x6 dual cab(This things staying)
If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
LPG enhancement combined with an EGT gauge. My tests show you can achieve similar power to a tweaked engine with somewhat lower EGT's that way.
I'm with Blknight on this one...
Personally, I'd leave it standard. That way, it'll be more reliable and parts easier to find.
It's a car built for comfort, not speed...

OP asked "inexpensive" diesel gas is somewhat expensive for the performance gains.
A decent diesel "tune" at a respected workshop will give you great results for minimal outlay. If you can spend a bit more an upgrade the intercooler that will help too.
Before you go, check, better still replace your inlet hoses to make sure they are in top condition. Also check the intercooler is not blocked/restricted
I reckon engines are like people. Live a fast life and die young; plod along and live long
300tdi D1 is an awesome vehicle, leave the tuning alone. Throw in a swag, a fridge, some firewood, a camp oven and let it take you out and show you what it can offer rather than worry about what it doesn't offer. MHO only, of course.
Also, you can keep buying lotto tickets if you like, you never know, you might win and buy a Maserati.
