Is this reinforcing particularly of the stay required for a series where the bonnet fitting is standard? Mine only has the normal bonnet stay but does have the reinforcing framework underneath the bonnet.

Hi Tombie,
On what grounds do you think that a bonnet mounted spare is illegal?
Mine doesn't impinge on the field of view requirements.

What other rules would cover it?
Do you know if a bonnet mounted spare was an option on a 300Tdi in Australia.
Tony
The bonnet stay is the standard hinged/scissor type. Seems up to the job.
Lifting the bonnet is a bit of stuff around that I've just got used too. Either a set of vice grips or the Mrs holding the bonnet release out and me performing a clean and jerk manover on the bonnet.
When I bought it (correct for a 300TDi Defender), Land Rover Australia wanted about $1500 for the kit. I found if you ordered it in spares, you would save yourself around $1200 (although in the end I got the kit in the end with the saving - right place, right time).
They might have been standard on the 3 door wagons and the 110/120 tray backs.Quote:

Hi Tony,
I have a 1997 build 130 300Tdi which I bought second hand. It has bonnet mount fittings aswell as the support bracket in the tub. I believe the bonnet is the original but I don't think a wheel has ever actually been used on the bonnet. The stay is a single piece of rod that's hard to deploy without a wheel let alone with one attached. Hence my earlier questions to nobbyclrk. I've removed the tub mount and installed a swing away wheel carrier (from Rijidij) which is great. There's some much more available space in the tub.
And thanks for the link to the VicRoads pdf which included info on roof rack supports. It was timely as I've been thinking about extending my roof rack to the front of the windscreen and using supports from the side rails.
cheers
