    Defender Transfer into Disco

Has anyone swapped a Defender transfer box into a Disco 1 V8 auto? The Disco transfer gears have a ratio of 1.2 and the Defender is 1.4, so it should provide a bit more get up and go at the expense of less top speed. It should make towing easier.

yep, ive gone manual to auto in a disco and deefer to disco in manual but not deefer manual to disco auto I dont think that its going to cause any hassles providing you have all the accessories. The last one I did a disco owner went to deefer rubber and wanted his bottom end back. 3 hours worth of work with the 2 of us roll in and drive away on both vehicles BUT he had already dropped off the shafts, park brake and speedo setups.

Fitting up the disco was less fun than the deefer.

Hate to revive an old thread, but...

    Will a D1 V8 auto T'case swap directly for a 99 model defender 130 T'case? I've heard that gives the 130 more legs - anyone done it?

    I have a 130, and the D1 T'case ready to go....

    Cheers,

    Adam

    Hi
Yes it does. I have 1:2 Disco TC in my defender 130.

You need the version with centre diff lock. When swapping I had to swap handbrake bits, speedo bits, some linkage bits and mounts. Checked input gear cross drilled etc.

When driving it makes hill starts more challenging and with a big load or trailer I have had to resort to low range. I have diesel gas so no problem holding 5th on open road with camper trailer on the flat! At 120. Also lower revs so quieter!
I think much more drivable car. Worth every cent. I have 235 / 85 / 16s so standard . Speedo is still reading 10% above actual.

I kept original TC in case changed mind, but run Disco TC now for 100,000km and 5+ years, keeping it as is.

    regards

I have a Defender transfer sitting in the shed to go into my D1 V8 that's on 31's. Will see how the gearing is, if too low will swap to 32's.
