    Disco 3 Factory Tyres

Greetings. I have been a member here before but for the life of me cannot remember my login info Anyway, hello to all.

I have a Disco 3 TDv6 that is having tyre issues. It now has 30,000km but at around 25,000km it developed a slight vibration and tyre drumming noise.

The local tyre mob said that the tyres were scalloped (out of round?) and could not be fixed = either put up with the noise or replace them!

Is this a known issue with the standard Goodyear rubber? They are probably 50% worn which doesn't seem very good wear for 30,000km.

The tyre bloke suggested Pirelli Scorpion (Zero or AT, not sure). I tow a heavy camper trailer 3 times a year and restrict off road travel to low level stuff. I am more concerned about family safety on the bitumen than off-road ability. Would these Pirelli's suit??

Open to suggestions based on your experiences and the above info. I don't want a noisey on-road tyre so maybe the Pirelli Zero would suit me better or another brand?

    Gday,

I just replaced my goodyears with another set I bought from a D4 owner off this forum..the original set did 71000kms and I could have gotten maybe another 5000kms out of them but was doing a long road trip so replaced them.

No noise and no drama's with the goodyears.

    Cheers Ean

I did ~50k on the factory wranglers on the d3 and found them useless for anything non Tarmac. Now on my second set of Pirelli scorpion atr. They're a great tyre, quiet and wear well. Good off road too. Key to longevity for any tyre on a d3/4 is to rotate them and get a wheel alignment every service, and make sure you're running the correct pressures.

Thanks Whitey. Scorpion ATR are at the top of my list (but only due to the 2 recommendations to date). Can you recall, how quiet are they on tarmac compared to the Wranglers?

Am I right in thinking that doing a wheel alignment with the air spension is not a simple process that not any tyre place can do?? I don't really want to give the Adelaide dealer any more of my money than need be (very poor value for money in my opinion!!!).

They're as quiet I think. I spend 95% of the time in Brisbane CPD or on the freeway between the sunshine and gold coasts; I like a quiet car.

I'm a mechanical nitwit but my understanding is it's easy enough, they just need to know what to do. Something to do with putting the air suspension into a certain mode (height) and aligning all 4 wheels. I've had it done by the dealer (who subs it out) and by the some of the larger tyres shops.
