Yes, that would have been a good idea...
Mine is the XS-7000, which is now re-named as the Ctek MXS 7.0 and I'd say its a later variant as it uses words for the various modes. - I've seen User Instructions that show voltages instead.

The case can run pretty warm when its working hard. (Large stuffed battery like N70Z)
I'm very happy with it. You get what you pay for.

yes that one has the "zapping" feature, not sure if its designed as a dedicated zapper or as a byproduct of the pulse charging routine.
the really good ones have a setting thats for "re-juvinate" and they're the ones with the dedicated "blow up your vehicle electronics" zapping feature.
of course the primitive way of zapping a battery is to remove one of the diodes from an alternator and bridge it directly, rough on the alternator but boy, does it remove sulphation from batteries.

I'd reccomed one of these ... I have recovered quite a few sulphated batteries with it (ride-on to automotive) using its dedicated rejuvination setting. Does 2A/10A/21A charge rates, settings for wet/sealed (AGM), calcium & gel batteries, and bang for buck is better value than a 25A C-Tek (not that there's anything wrong with CTek ... other than the price).

yep, one of them would do the trick too..
The only thing you need to be careful of with these...
If your going to use one to charge a battery while its still hooked up to a load if the load is anything more technically advanced than basic lighting or dumb loads fit a choke between the battery and the load, I like to use a toroid winding and a semi decent sized capacitor after the primary fuse/circuit breaker but before the distribution board.

		Why is that Dave ?

I have (for the last 2.5yrs on & off) used it to keep my batteries (old = calcium & wet lead acid deep cycle / new = optima D31A / D34) topped up whilst I've run the ARB fridge. Still on now after a 3 weeks Xmas run. haven't had any failures or issues .... dissconnect when we go for a drive, and reconnect when we get back ...
