Fuel tank swap? (long-range)
howdy,
I have just scored myself a long range tank from an early 80's rangie(3.5, carbie, V8 petrol). I plan on fitting this to my disco (98, 300tdi).. I already know the chassis are the same dimensions.
im interested if anyone else has done this before? anyone know what kind of problems might I find myself in?
the tank is (I think) a long ranger, 131Litre. part no. TR23L ...im only going off a visual comparison from this site-- :: The Long Ranger :: Land Rover Range Rover
as it doesnt appear to have a number or identifier of any sort anywhere on it.
the fuel level guage wiring im sure I can work out. there appears to be no integrated pump, just a drop-in pickup pipe(I assume the early rangies had an external pump?) which should be fine as my 300tdi uses the mechanical lift pump. the filler port appears to be further back, im sure a little bit of plumbing will sort this.
any advice/experience will be very valuable to me.
Cheers,
Jarrod.

Mainly the filler position will be totally different, and the '98 D1 will have different chassis mounts. Nothing a bit of fab work can't fix.
