Thread: Disco 2 2001 Petrol V8 issues

Hi all,

I have a couple of problems with my Disco 2, 2001 Petrol V8 with 167000KM on the clock. It currently refuses to start when hot and intermittently stalls or hesitates when accelerating at intersections or traffic lights. However, when the vehicle is cold, it starts without an issue. I have already replaced the fuel pump, but the issue persists.

Additionally, the cruise control system stopped working around 3 months ago. I have traced the vacuum lines and they all seem to be connected. Is there anything else I should be checking?

Please bear in mind I'm not particularly mechanically minded and only have the basic tools in my garage and I live around 80KM's from any qualified Land Rover mechanics

The crankshaft position sensor could be the cause of the hot running problems. Next time try spraying the sensor with a can of soft drink to see if it starts soon after, as the evaporating drink will cool the sensor. They are known to cause problems when hot.

Thanks for that! It definitely seems to be the cause of the problem. I'm still stuck with the cruise control though.. checked the vacuum lines and all appears good. Is there a way to do it with the car running?
