For the price of a UJ I would replace, Regards Frank.
Well on Sunday I was doing a bit of greasing on my universal joints and drive shafts and found that one grease nipple was missing from the rear drive UJ that connects to the rear of the hand brake
I ordered a few spares on ebay, really expensive at €0.23 each lol. But I am wondering how much damage I could have done? I don't drive my Landy that much at all as it is not my daily driver and I've had two trips since my last check on the UJs. The UJ replacements are cheap as well at less than €5 so no worries there either but I wouldn't like to have been caught out on the hills with only front wheel drive!
So this is just a reminder to everyone here that after any trip, just after you wash the muck off the chassis, that it is worth checking the grease nippes on each UJ and shaft and giving them a little squirt of grease.
For the price of a UJ I would replace, Regards Frank.
I'd go with Frank, swap the UJ. Having said that, if the joint was well greased initially, just losing the nipple shouldn't upset things too much. Just fit a new nipple and squirt some new grease into the UJ, checking the colour of the emerging stuff and the amount of new grease it takes to press the old one out.
