    Post TD5 POWER STEERING PUMP

    Roverphiles,

I would like to instal a hydraulic winch which may be powered by the power steering pump. An alternate is to instal a 12v dc hydraulic power pack so the winch may be operated from the battery with the engine off.

Does anyone know what the flow output of the PAS should be?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    G'Day Michael,

I have a 10,000lb Hydaulic winch on my Td5 power steering, have had it on 4 different vehicles and would not have anything else ! I did look at running a power pack and even did the exercise of pricing up the parts, but it was costly and it lost one of the main advantages of having a hydraulic winch, it used power again !!
The man you need to talk to in Perth is Ian "Brute" on here, he is the hydraulic specialist and and advise and sell you anything you need, he is in Welshpool!, PM me if you need more info !

    Cheers

I have a hydraulic winch fitted to my disco, found it ok but slow then fitted a hydraulic pump to the back of the transfer case with the power steering pump at max pressure 100 bar (1400 psi) the flow is down to 8.5 ltr/min I think at max flow rates it is around 12 ltrs/min.

after fitting and adjusting the pressure relief valve at 3200psi was getting around 70 ltrs/min at 1800 rpm checked with a flow meter from work I had to strengthen the mounts for the winch.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

    TD5 POWER STEERING PUMP

Thanks Guys, the winch requires 3.5 US Gallons Per Minute (13.3 litre) @1500PSI (103 BAR). This may explain why hydraulic winches powered by the PAS seem to be slow. I will chase up Mr Hydraulics and see if I can solve the problem.

By the way, does anyone know where I can get an original winch mounting kit for the Disco II, please?

    Michael
