Which way does the oil go??

I am going to fit either an aftermarket auto gearbox oil cooler to my 94 Disco 300TDi Automatic, or a cooler off a P38.
Question 1. which way does the oil from the auto flow, looking from the front, does A. the oil come into the cooler from the passenger side pipe, or B. does it come in from the drivers side, Thanks in advance.
Question 2. Has anyone got pics or advice/info on fitting an aftermarket oil cooler in line/conjunction with the standard auto oil cooler.
I have heaved the air con condensor and fans, both fans are cactus but before that they have squashed all the fins around the circumference of the fan blades, a band about 50mm wide, only thing I can think of is when the fans were working someone has driven through deep water(wasn't me) while they were operating.

Hi , aftermarket box?? is it a ZF?? if it is the answer is both ways, when the ZF goes into lock up the oil flow reverses to lock the clutch on!!. Fitting an inline filter can lead to major probs because of this !!. Hope this is some help. Regards Ian Ashcroft

Ian, thanks for your reply, yes a ZF box (standard), did you mean Oil Cooler instead of inline filter, I can see where an inline filter would cause problems with the flow reversing, but is it the same for an extra oil cooler, is there a right and wrong way to connect an extra oil cooler, do aftermarket coolers have to be rated at a certain oil pressure, I don't suppose you have a pic of this type of installation, do you sell a kit, or could you recommend one, Regards Frank.

    Which way does it go?

...on mine, it's usually all over the driveway.

    ....I'll get my coat.

Supplementary question, if allowed by Mr Moderator, and Tank

Same question, but R380 'box. Normal oil cooler is mounted horizontally, so flow and return doesn't really need to be known, (or does it?). When mounting a vertical oil cooler, then I imagine flow (hot) should connect to the cooler's top connection, (and return to the bottom). But which is flow at the gearbox: top or bottom connection? Can't find anything in the workshop manual, and my gearbox mechanic doesn't know. With thanks to Tank, and previous comments.

What my concern is and reason for knowing which way the oil flows, is because I was going to fit another oil cooler in conjunction with the original oil cooler. If for instance the oil entered the original oil cooler, say from the right and travelled to the left, then I would plumb the extra oil cooler into the "OUT" side of the original cooler, into the aftermarket (AM) cooler and then to the return (to gearbox) line.
But as Ian says the flow reverses when convertor clutch locks it would mean that the AM cooler would be the first stage of the cooling and my main worry is the system could end up with an air gap/bubble which may cause a problem for the pump, any thought on this, Regards Frank.
