For anybody watching ,
The codes it throws are
P0104 Mass Volume air flow
and
P0046, Turbo control soleniod
My guess at whats the problem , a seized Turbo actuator rod

Well I was right , it was the Solenoid/actuator/stepper motor that was faulty ,now you find out its $3300 for the Turbo and $1500 to fit it !! Bloody stealers/factory wont sell the Solenoid alone , they force you to buy the Whole Turbo assembly.
Wonder if the Ford Territory uses the same one ?
a mate told me that my paritcular Garrett VNT (2.8tgv) is sold as a non servicable unit here in Oz...but service parts are available from the UK.
maybe try allard or some of the Landy turbo mobs in the UK?
I'd be phoning Turbotechnics in the UK. They do all of JLR's repairs and are one of the few Garrett authorised places to set up the electronic VNT's.
Turbo Technics
Thanks TimNZ ,had a nice long chat with them in the UK , and guess what ? Same deal in the UK .Buy the whole turbo with actuator ,only. They commented on how this problem was becoming more prevalent with the TDV6 .They are trying to get these electronic actuators out of people like Siemens/Borg Warner/Bosch etc but JRA/LRA/Tata ,have the suppliers all stiched up with agreements ,especially Garrett.THey have only just put a testing rig together to check the electronic actuator as when they do overhaul a TDV6 or SDV6 turbo they can be assured it will work.So currently the best anyone can do is send a Electronic actuator to them for testing . They cant fix it if its broke either.
Interestingly, the main issue that seems to lead to the breakdown of the actuator is the actual carboning up of the VNT vanes . They believe it maybe from excessive short runs/heat cycles .The poor actuator is so weak in design strength that it is only marginal at best. (However , my mates engines was only doing very long runs, so that doesnt Hold true either !!) Ah well ,back to the Drawing Board !!!And where does that leave us if ,in mates case it happenned while long distance towing ,using the cruise control ?????????????????????????????
Not the best news :( Are TT able to supply a reco unit for a more sensible price?
Cheers,
To be honest TinNZ , I fergot to ask !!! I will do that !! There are plenty of S/H going around for between $1000 and $1500 ,but you really wont Know how long they will last.
About the only other thing I can find is the Topix note on the Rod seizing on its Pivots ,complete with part numbers for the overhaul Kit . Got the PDF from Disco3.co.uk. Now if was only that simple .
Heres that Topix note:
