So if you're lucky you may be able to repair the turbo?
$28ish sounds a lot better than $3000+++ Britcar (UK) Ltd > LR023086 TURBO ACTUATOR KIT 2.7L DIS3-4-RRS (G)
How hard is the turbo to remove? Is it a "body off" job like the RRS?

Ah. the "Body off" syndrome. Another conundrum !!!! Why is it that the original LR D3 manual clearly shows how to remove the Turbo Without removing the body , yet our local stealers want to remove the body ? Perhaps ,removing the body is quicker, easier , Ive just been quoted 15 hrs (@$150 Ph =$2250) . The way to do it in the car is basically going through the upper Left hand Wishbone . Remove wheel, remove upper wishbone etc , still quite a job but hard to imagine why its not done that way .In Fact ,one workshop in SA always does it that way and doesnt understand why our Local WA stealers do the Body off thing. Suppose ,once you have a dedicated Hoist/Jig/setup and a known practiced Work procedure it may be quicker (read=more profitable!)
Hi 400HPONGAS
Thanks a lot for your mesage.
I have the same issue and my service try to charge lot of money from me due to "body off" syndrome :)
Could you please publish a copy original LR D3 manual when clearly shows that the Turbo can remove without removing the body?
Thank you in advance.
Pavel , PM me with your email and Ill send you the PDF .
Further to me mates Turbo issue , you wouldnt believe what actually happened .
So , after a day of careful analysis ,its down to the dealer for a Turbo change .
Easily obtained a as new Turbo from TRS at a 1/3 the price of a new one !
So , go to put the car up on the Hoist ,and it didnt have enough power to get up the ramp ! Hmm . thats funny , yep theres the MAF fault back again . Lets change the MAF . Viola , one perfectly performing engine !!!!!! Unbelievable .
Moral to this story , Nobody ,but Nobody ,truely understands the Engine management system and its Logic .There is no facility in Australia to actually test / calibrate many of the electronic engine management hardware , let alone the software .
Where does that leave us , just change parts to something works
Not only do you need a T4 , throw in a 32 channel chart recorder , a Signal generator and some accurate calibration data .
That was a $6000 job , reduced to $500 by shear Luck !!
Makes you wonder how many punters have actually gone through the old parts replacement thing and drove out for $10,000 instead of $1000 !!
TimNZ , wouldnt matter if you used the T4 ,or the Autologic or the Faultmate or me little torque app ,the result is still the same .They all found the same faults the same way . None of them are equipped with enough logic to work out what came first in this Chicken or the egg battle.
Pongas, the reason it happens is because there isn't tradesman anymore, today the world is full of computer nerds who cannot do anything without the computer telling them what to do,if the computer can't find the problem there is no problem.IMHO the reason why modern cars have so many electrical/sensor issue's is because the factory trained ''technician's'' aren't taught even the most basic fault finding problem solving skills. Pat
I forgot to add that yes blindly replacing parts in the hope it fixes the issue is normal procedure in the modern world. Pat
These days the so called experts just follow what the computer says and don't bother diagnosing the issue with a bit of common sense. Repair by replacement until the problem is fixed seems to be norm these days - and let the owner pay for all the unnecessary parts.
I had a check engine light on my Freelander - the test book indicated an injection pump shut down issue. Took the car to three experts who all said it needed a new injection pump and injectors - approx $3000 worth of work.
The car would start from cold OK and run until it was switched off then the fault would occur - to me the pump and injectors were OK as it would run - using the information that it was a shut down issue I disassembled the shutoff solenoid - I found a small amount of crud in it that stopped it closing completely but still enough to stop the engine but the sensors had picked it up.
Now it took me about 10 minutes to fix and cost nothing - now I wonder why the so called experts could not have done the same.
Recently had an egr fault light ad code in my RRS - if I had taken it to a so called expert they would have replaced egrs for about $1600 but I sorted it myself - was just a dodgy connector to the passneger side egr and fixed at no cost.
Service centres wonder why customers are sceptical of diagnosis.
