    Cross Bolt V8 identify

    Hi ,
we have a crossbolted engine that has no comp ratio stamped on the pad and the engine number consists of 4602145 only no prefix no suffix .

The numbers stamped are not the usual rover shape , though size is similar but digits are too thick and are as low as could be on the pad and by my reckoning are not factory .

I pressume that it was a new engine that arrived with a clear pad so`s the P38a or D2 engine number could be transposed but it`s not fitted to either .

As far as i know it`s a Victorian car .

Does anyone have a similar type engine number or any clue how to find out what the number means , the fellow i bought the car off believes it`s a 4.6 ltr .

I know there`s 11mm difference in stroke between a 4.6 and a 4.0 and i have a low comp 4.0 ltr , so i can probably guesstimate which engine it may be but i don`t know the concave difference between either 4.6/4.0 high and low pistons , so would only be a guess .

That`s why any interpretation of the stamped number would be good .

    Thanks

    Peter

I've got a 4.6 low comp block (rebuilt to hi comp) no 48D01920A. Apparently there's a different color stripe in the valley between 4.0 and 4.6's.
