    Are rear bar lights required?

I have a Kaymar rear bar which still has the crappy lights they fitted. However, they need replacement owing to broken lenses or just failing to work.

Does one legally have to have them fitted? I assume that, if fitted, they must work.

Can I remove them completely and fit blanking plates over the holes?

    I do have a swing-away wheel carrier.

Alternatively, has anyone found a reasonably priced LED replacement that will fit the Kaymar rear bars? I've seen the same lights on Kaymar Land Cruiser bars.

Mine has conventional bulbs - I think the assemblies are Hella 2368 which list for about $30 each.

I've just found Kaymar sells these for $155 a pair but they are for the bars with festoon bulbs.

I think you need the bumper lights due to the spare wheel mount on the carrier.
This obstructs a clear view of the body mounted lights.at angles.
There must be some decent LED tail lights out there.
The old trailer lights on the bumpers of Toyos was a ugly joke.

Bar lights will be needed due to the spare wheel covering the N/S light from certain angles.

Seeing as the lights appear to fit behind the bumper, can a slightly bigger light be fitted in case the original size can't be sourced cheaply?
Just asking because Supercheap sell LED trailer lights for around $70/pair (less when on sale).

Thanks Scott. The SCA ones may work. They are slightly smaller than the Hella 2368.

The 2368 are not quite flush with the outside of the bar but slimmer (as in depth) lamps would have ample room to sit back as the 2368 are 45mm deep.

I'd love reversing lamps as well. The spare wheel blocks the LH reversing lamp. Extra lighting would be a boon with the reverse camera.

I'll go to SCA, Bursons, AutoOne, AutoBarn and Repco tomorrow.

    Hi Ron,
As others have said the lights are needed due to the spare.
Have a look here, lots of different LED lights. Both the bearing shops here in town have them, but I have not seen then in an automotive shop, go figure!

    Ron,

    Try Bright Lights Auto parts.

They have heaps of LED lights. This is where I usually source mine from, and have never had any problems.

Ron the Narva site Model 34 & 36 - Products - Narva lists 93606BL as a slimline rear combination. You should be able to get them at any auto parts store but may have to order them in.

The dimensions are 155mm X 76mm, if thats not too big?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    .
Get creative with your current reverse lights. I have fitted 20 watt halogen downlights in the past and also cree LEDs. Both work very well with built in reflectors and look completely standard when not turned on.

No, that's a little smaller than the current Hellas. Thanks Diana.

I was thinking of using my wheel carrier light-on-a-stick (not in photo above) as a reversing light. It would need rewiring but that shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks Tony. I had a look and they also have a number of things that could be used.

Hi Basil. I had looked at their site but didn't find anything to fit the space available. The BL201 would go close. I think I could make it fit.

I think I'll pull an existing lamp assembly out and look at the mountings.
