Advice needed re fitting Solid Diff Cover
Hi Guys,
I was helping miinithemoocha to fit a Solid brand Dana 60 diff cover to his Defender and we noted that once bolted up the cover bound the crown wheel and stopped the diff from turning!!
Is there any advice on fitting these?
- Do they need grinding?
- Do they need thick gaskets?
- Has he got the wrong one? (it fits well otherwise).
Thanks for the advice, and I'm sure he'll jump onto this discussion when he gets home.

Hi Michael, it certainly sounds like it needs some spacing off the diff. A commercial product should fit exactly, so a call or e-mail to the supplier would be worth the effort. Cheers, 130man.

Hmm - Rick130 has one of these (among others).
Seems very strange...

I didn't put on the cork gasket but would not have thought the clearance so close.
Tomorrow I will pull off the cover and there should be some light marks where the crown wheel touches the cover as the diff would turn once all the diff cover bolts were loosened off.
In addition I have got a cork gasket to see if that helps.

PM's exchanged
It sounds like the flange has been machined too far.
