    truck/tractor oil question

I've got castrol agri power plus 15w40 for the rover and the bloke at the tractor shop says it'll do for the tractor (Kubota 3850) as well, even though the tractor manual calls for 10w30. Can anyone confirm this is correct or do I need to get separate oil for the tractor? Thanks,
    Don.

Which engine is in that one nod ?

I'm with Dave, Agri MP Plus should be fine, it's Castrol's recommendation for most Kubota's as 10W-30 HD diesel oils are as rare as rocking horse poop in Australia, they are more a North American thing and I wouldn't use a car engine oil in a diesel tractor, juts not robust enough IMO.

We're pretty much at Sydney. According to the tractor specs, the engine is V 1902-DI-A,( see below) and I made a mistake with the model No. it's a L3250. Not 3850. The truck engine is 300TDI.The tractor shop bloke has SAE 30 in small packs, but I'm trying to avoid investing in the oil market by storing lots of various types of oil in my shed.

Punch the model # in here http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/castr_au/default.asp and you'll see the recommendations, including this note at the botom.

547 Australian Agent previously recommended CASTROL AGRI MP.

Thanks, Dave and Rick. The stuff I've got Agri power plus is 15w40 and the Castrol reccomendation from their 'finder' is Agri MP plus which is 20w40. Do you think I'm ok going with the one I've got or is it too far out of the spec?

Yours will be better, it's thinner at start up and has a higher API service rating.

The Agri MP Plus is a multi functional engine/driveline/hydraulic fluid whereas Agri Power Plus is a straight up engine oil.

Thanks Rick, I'll organise an oil change for the tractor after the next mowing session, which won't be far away.
