    exhaust manifold gaskets 3.5 3.9

I notice the exhaust manifold gaskets for these engines seem quite different but appear to have the same head ports and manifolds? Is there one better to use than the other on a 3.5 injected . I like the look of the 3.9 p38 design but thought id throw it out there for some feedback .

I don't use gaskets any more. On my latest refit about 15KK ago, I just sealed them with a thumb smear of Permatex Gold high temp, and so far no leaks, and the bolts have kept tension.
I agree the 38A ones look easier to fit without fitting one back to front.

Early gaskets were individual gaskets 8 per vehicle.(a tin & asbestos like material though probably not asbestos these days)
Later Gaskets are a stainless seal laminated ones. The later ones are less fiddley as they are 2 ports joined so you offer them up as pairs. Lot easier to get them the right way around. Be careful with gaskets as they look the same when viewed, but fit them the wrong way you end up blocking the exhaust port.
RPI engineering has a pic on their site which explains it.

As PhillipA has said , havent fitted exhaust gaskets for years , a good high temp RTV , even in "sensor safe" grade will easily outlast those pesky gaskets !
