Back -up battery for 110 Defender

    Hi
I have a 110 series hard top and plan extended trips sleeping in the back . I am researching the best type of back-up battery to instal (to run all things photographic) and where is the best place on the vehicle to instal it . Look forward with interest to your replies .Thanks

there are other threads on this ....

searching this site via google may give better results than using this site's search function

if you're presently using an N70 size you can fit another battery of that physical size in the battery box easily enough without altering anything

see: Squeezing two decent sized batteries into a Defender battery box?

there are other threads which address the wisdom or otherwise of using "deep cycle" batteries etc - I guess what you choose will be governed by the likely draw and use you are expecting from the second battery and whether or not you intend using it as a "backup" starting battery.... "backup" was the term used in your question

    2 X Delkor NX-110-5MF (620cca) will fit even more easily than 2 X N70s

I repeat what 87 County said about the number of threads dealing with the topic. As 87 County said you can fit 2 x N70 sized batteries in the battery box. I attach a pic of my set up. The auxiliary battery is a 105 a/h so you don't need to compromise on a smaller battery.

You need to rotate the batteries 90 deg to original orientation and build up the floor of the battery box so the 2 batteries sit level. I used existing holes in the floor of the battery box to secure the cross brace. You can use the original brace with a little grinding at one end to avoid fouling the battery lid or use another piece of bracing cut to size. It's all very tight towards the front of the box but it fits with room for an isolator and fuse box at the rear of the battery box. Make sure your positives are in the orientation closest to the cubby box otherwise there is a risk of contact with the battery box. Insulation would solve that problem, but why risk it.

    cheers MLD
