    Prob fitting factory central locking

    howdy,

the other day I pulled the central locking control unit out of a donor D1(green box about the size of your hand, under passenger foot well)
the cables were already available to plug it in to my disco (just had to unplug what appears to be some sort of terminator or loop-back cable)

I duplicated this from the donor car.

I also have the key fobs from the donor vehicle.

Now. so after plugging it all in I pressed the lock button on the key fob and saw the indicators flash. then nothing. no central locking even by the traditional 'key in the door' method. discovered fuse had blown so replace fuse tried key fob and nothing, check fuse ...ok, not blown, tried key to lock and it blew the fuse.

do to wrap it up. with the central locking control unit plugged in when key is turned in the door it blows the fuse, remove the control unit, replace the fuse and key works in door fine.
I have not seen the indicators flash again since.

my question is does anyone know if I have to remove or change a relay? or is there something I forgot to grab off the donor vehicle?
has anyone had any experience with this one before.

ps. I would very much like remote central locking. I work in I.T. and there is nothing worse than trying to balance 5 computers while trying to grab the keys deep within your right pocket when only your left hand is available, plus I look like a idiot while doing this so my dignity is also at stake.

    cheers,
    Jarrod.

Provided that it is a one-button fob, then the solution is to revisit the donor disco and take the harness from the drivers door as well. LR wired the door solenoids up a little different in models without the alarm. The connections are behind the RH footwell, and can be fed thru the door frame one at a time. Whilst you are there, grab the ultrasonic sensors from near the interior light and (if you can) the led harness. Did you get the antenna for the alarm ECU?, as it plays a big part too.

Have a look thru the RAVE wiring diagram for alarm and it should explain it - otherwise PM /post some pics for more info.

Ok, looks like I still have some work to do. Thanks. I will re-visit the donor vehicle tomorrow.

Oops - forget that you'll also need the bonnet switch and alarm horn from the engine bay.
    (PM sent)
