    Compliance Plate info.

    Good evening all,

I have a Landrover Defender Td5 ex Australian Army, my question to the forum is, On the compliance plate where on previous vehicles it read (Build Date) this reads Delivery Date (eg) Del 12 - 00 12 -02

Does that mean the vehicle was delivered in December 2000 or December 2002

    Thanks.

Not sure about the ex-Army TD5 but some manufacturers were losing so much money on unsold imported cars when they remained in holding yards past December 31 as people buying new imported cars wanted this years model not last years. So instead of stamping the vehicles with a build date they stamped them with a delivery date when they had them released from the bond storage. (Remember when a vehicle is in bond, it is technically not in Australia and only arrives when it is released from bond, and at that point it needs to be stamped for Australian Compliance.)

Jeep definately did this and I know that the later ex-army Defender TD5 were a year earlier on the VIN than stamped on the compliance so yours likely the same and a MY00 VIN and MY02 by the compliance.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
