BIM 024 ign. mod.- Timing change?

I've just fitted the BOSCH BIM 024 Ignition conversion from Bee Utey, due symptoms consistant with impending LUCAS failure...

Question: - For those who've done the conversion - Did you need to adjust the timing? If so, Advance or Retard?
    - I reckon it feels retarded, compared with how it was when on the LUCAS. When the Lucas was working properly....

I have'nt had a chance to get it on the road, nor have I looked at the reluctor gap.

As my timing light has absconded, I'm not keen on fiddling whilst in complete ignorance.

As a matter of interest, if the pickup leads are reversed, that is, the RED lead from dizzy goes to the skinny terminal, the timing is either hugely advanced or happening somewhere else it should'nt. Engine either backfires or, in my case, cranks as though the compressions are almost too much and it virtually stops on each one... I realized after the first compression/attempt at firing that Something Was Gunna Go Seriously RRong.

This is why Bee supplies a second pair of terminals.... 'cos he knows that "everyone" will do this...

The BLUE wire from the dizzy should go to the skinny terminal on the top-end. The RED wire goes to the 2nd terminal. - See pic.

Observant folk will notice I've crudely coloured the terminals, to make them match the wire colours.... and I've used the original plug/socket 'cos it looks groovy. :-))

The timing will be retarded slightly, the BIM024 takes a slightly higher trigger voltage to fire. It may be quite retarded unless the pickup gap is closed to .005". With the lack of timing light (naughty!) manually turn on a bit of advance by turning the dissy, find the max idle speed, then reduce a bit. Check for smooth running as you rev it up slowly.

All the goss on the conversion is in here:

Thanks, it all makes perfect sense (BOSCH needing higher trigger voltage) Pity my 'scope died recently...

Yes, it was very naughty of the Timing Light to go walkabout. - It will have some explaining to do when I find it...
Should'nt be long now, I've excavated a tunnel into the back of The Shed and already finding things I'd not only forgotten but still can't remember... Wife has given me till 60th birthday to uncover 3/4 of the floor area or else everything is going into a BIG skip. Or two. My Wife is very patient.... but the signs say SWMBO is dead-set serious on this one...
