    Removing engine and box

Hi guys, got myself a disco 1 with a 300tdi, auto and lt230 for a rangie softdash conversion.

I have removed the radiator, cooler, engine mount bolts, hoses and all things attached, electrical aswell! "PITA" I have remove the gearbox crossmember, tail shafts and exhaust system aswell.

I have ran into some problems, One of the bolts on the bellhousing has a stripped hex head, its in the (1 o'clock postition)!

How can I get a better view of this bolt since its bloody right up agaisnt the firewall?

Also can I remove everything (engine, gearbox and transferbox) in one hit with an engine crane?

    cheers Goran

is it possible to access to weld a nut on the head of the rounded bolt. option 2 is cut/ chisel head off and remove stud left after seperation of the engine and box.

Use a single hex socket. Lift the engine up, remove the engine mounts then lower it down for more clearance off the firewall.

    Hi Geeman,
Yuk! It's always the bolt head that is hardest to get to!

Im not sure if you can pull the whole lot out together as I have never tried. Are you able to hammer a slightly smaller socket on? sometimes its easier to get the next size smaller imperial socket on if the next metric wont fit. I'm sorry, this is all I can think of at the moment!

    Good luck

its right up the top of the gearbox, so you I cant weld anything on there.
When I get home I will try and remove the engine mounts and drop the engine lower see If I can smash on a small socket. PITA

If all else fails Im just gonna have to cut the radiator support out! lol

    since you're wreckin the D1 - that'll be OK

But if you can lower it enough to get at the bolthead to cut it off with a dremel or similar you can get the stud out later as chrisadberg wrote

FWIW the thread is seized and IME no tight fitting socket will help anymore than your original one did - a welded on bolthead is the only other remedy I know (the heat from the welding seems to help loosen the thread)
