Replace oil cooler and all hoses - TD5 'fender

    Hey All,

After blowing a head gasket, then blowing a brain gasket at the cost of the repair, I'm replacing all the hoses in the cooling system on my 130 TD5 myself. I have all new hoses and a new oil cooler (old cooler is leaking). I'm getting the radiator rodded at the same time and will give the whole system a good flush.

Anyone got tips, tricks or advice on ways to make this easier on myself? The oil cooler in particular looks a right bastard - can it be done without removing the exhaust manifold?

An EMS2 is going in at the same time.

    Cheers,

    Adam

I can't comment on the defender, but for my TD5 D2, the RAVE dvd has been invaluable.I'm no mechanic, but recently changed my exhaust manifold, which entailed removing the turbo, the viscous fan, and moving the aircon motor to one side, point being it wasn't hard, @ if I can do it, almost anyone can, but you need the RAVE - it has more than saved me the price of purchase. you "may" be able to do it without removing the exhaust mani, but seriously don;t bother trying. its really a simple task pulling the exhaust mani off and makes it sooo much easier to access the oil cooler and particularly the small hose at the rear.
also gives you the chance to enlarge the exhaust manifold holes on the end and new studs to prevent manifold warp which is common.

I did the manifold on the disco a few years ago so I'm comfortable with getting it off. Thinking about it today I reckon its going to come off anyway so I can tap it for the EGT probe.

Finally ordered my NEW RAVE CD a couple of days ago too - I did have one but its gone to the same place all my left socks went in the last move!

    Cheers,

    Adam
