    LRT-12-045

    Hi all,

I am going to be replacing the injector pump on my 300tdi in the very near future, and would like to do it without having to remove the timing belt.

I understand the above tool is what you need to hold the injector pump sprocket in position while you remove the pump.

i have seen the tutorial on here about making one up using the sprocket retaining plate as a template, but I would really like to have the tool ready to go when I start the job, as goodness knows how long it would take me to make up the tool

Does anyone know where I can get one, or what the dimensions are to make one up beforehand? Google has not provided so far...

    Thanks heaps

    Matt

The tools referred to in that article are just the timing pins to lock the crank and injector pump.... but thanks anyway!

The plate I am referring to is another component in the same tool set.... which is a little confusing but that is what I have worked out....

I am resigning myself to the fact that I am probably going to have to remove the timing belt cover...

You can do it with out the service tool.
line up timing and fit pins. Remove everything you need to remove the FIP except the 3 bolts in the sprocket. where the A/C tensioner mounts on the front cover screw 3 long bolts in and this will push the FIP backwards and will keep the sprocket place on the rear cover. then you can remove the three bolts and then FIP. if you use an 3/8 bolt with the head cut off for the timing pin in the FIP you wont need to remove the pin to remove the FIP.

i got my IP done at highway diesels at Salisbury and the bloke (peter?) there lent me the tools you are talking about, sadly he has sold the business and requested that he be 300km away or more before he can start up again, i heard a rumour that he could be up the sunshine coast somewhere

This sounds like a workable solution!

Do you know exactly which bolts I would need to go through the front cover to fix the FIP sprocket to the rear cover?

Also, have you actually done this yourself? Not meaning to question you too far, but I would have a lot more confidence in the method if you have actually done it yourself and can say definitively that it works...

I am planning on using a 9.5mm drill to time the FIP...

I have done it a number of times. Just don't over tighten the bolts.
I use longer bolts that are in the front cover.

Awsome.... thanks heaps, that saves a fair bit of sweat not having to get the bloody crankshaft pulley off, plus I don't have to buy a timing cover gasket
