    Intercooler hose

Hi all, just to let you know - I was on my way home from this years Variety 4WD Challenge and the 2010 Defender 110 started blowing heaps of black sooty smoke on acceleration - NO loss of power. So just tried driving to minimise the smoke and hope to get to phone range at Hawker. After 150km the engine light came on and went into limp mode. Carefully drove last 10km to Hawker. Had error code P0299 - rang a Landy mechanic and he didn't know what the code was, needed his computer to tell him - fair enough. Got tilt trayed to Solitaire using Landy assist. They were great - had a truck there in 1.5hrs so we ended up home only a little later than planned! Solitaire initially diagnosed as a stuck waste gate then rang to tell me that as they were pulling it apart they found a split bottom intercooler hose - oops. Feel like a dill myself as I could have taped it up on the road and maybe got home. 2 days later and its fixed and home - great service really and all under warranty, no questions asked. Dealer told me that the LR hoses are not much good and if he were me he would get a set of after market jobbies, so probably will do that and keep the LR ones as spares. Any suggestions as to the best ones to get?

Anyway, after long winded story the symptoms for those who might benefit were: Black smoke pouring out on acceleration; coolant temp +10 over usual; EGT +100 over normal, no power loss (until limp home); error code P0299. The error code was 'pending' for 150km or so.

♠yeah but remember - its the 2 days before Easter and they had originally diagnosed it as waste gate - so they had ordered and got overnighted to them a new turbo....... then found the split hose...... as they admitted, embarrassing....♦

Try fleabay - lots of blokes selling silicone hoses there. No guarantee you'll find better prices but worth a look.
