I heard that if you break a whell stud on a D2 you can't just buy the stud, you buy the whole hub assembly, any one had success in fitting just a stud?

"Land Rover don't sell replacement wheelstuds for the Discovery II, you have to buy a complete new hub assembly.
However, they do sell replacement wheelstuds for the P38 Range Rover, which are the same as the Discovery II.
The P38 wheelstud is Part No. FTC2057
