Thread: Roof gutter mounting brackets for Disco 1

My alloy rack has legs made from 6mm flat plate with sections of round tube 30mm long welded on verticaly about 100mm from the base that sits in the gutter these tubes allow a piece of 8mm thread bar to go through them this is welded to an angle which clamps under the rain gutter under were the flat bar leg sits it clamps up with a nut and works great .

Those legs in the link wont be high enough to clear the roof of the disco maby you should look at the rhino rack legs but there not cheap either.

Yep, they don't look like they'll fit a Disco roof. I also made my own like lokka.

I've been trying to come up with a design but can't get me head around it.

I've not got any experience of those actual mounts but the idea is a bloody good one since the Disco roof gutter is arched and needs different heights from front to middle to back.
I used a set of Front Runner mounts a few years ago and ended up cracking two of them because they were all the same height.

If you can get extended height mounts you should take the arched shaped gutter into account when installing them.

Well I've come up with a design that I will try to create once I get my welding table made.

Ignore the rust - forgot to paint the brackets when I painted the rest of the rack.

This is on a D1 roof. Deciding on the bolt angle was the key. On mine, the square tubing is on a slight angle and is NOT perfectly parallel to the plate. Hope that makes sense.

I thought the gutter mounts on mine were the same height, however the gutter curves around the vehicle. So the width between the mounts had to be different front to back.

That looks like a good, simple design.

What I have in my head is similar but the bottom mounting plate extends further up (where you have your long bolt) to the top mounting plate and bolts in directly. Yours looks easier to do though so I might adapt mine.
