    Centrifugal oil filter

    Does anybody know whether the centrifugal filt off a TD5 can be fitted to earlier engines, ie tdi 200, 300

    Yes. Not sure how easy it would be though.

    Or you can buy a new (generic) assembly from MANN+HUMMEL - not cheap though.

    If so, how to you know it aint working?

    Yes - they work extremely well. Unlike normal full flow filters they can remove soot from the oil. (they are probaby a significant reason why TD5s generally last a long time).

    They will only not work if they are not spinning, or if you haven't changed the element in a (very) long time. You should hear them spin down when you shut the engine off.

    yes

    you know it aint working if you can't hear it spin down at engine switch off or alternatively you can try cutting one in half come oil change /filter change time and see if stuff has collected inside the filter.
