Penrite Sin Manual Trans 75/85 Vs Castrol Syntrans

Did some running around up here pricing synthetic gear oil for the r380 and Castrol Syntrans is now $33 a litre.
Priced a 20L drum and can get it for $310 but do I want 20 litres?
    Not really.
Then stumbled on Penrite Sin Manual Trans, seems to meet all the specs for the r380 at $35 for 2.5 litres, that's a BIG difference between the two in price.
    So why?
Is the Penrite product that much inferior or just better value?

Would be interested in comments particularly from anyone who has tried both.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

That's a crazy price for Syntrans.

I'd use the Penrite, although I've never used it.

Syntrans is a good fluid, but it wouldn't be 2.5 times better than SIN MT.

BTW, $33/litre is Motul Gear 300 pricing

ARRRRRRGHH! Damn it! I bought 3 x 1 litre containers of Syntrans this morning for $88, after running VMX80 for the past 12 years.

Oh well; I know it will be worth it.....

    Thanks Rick,
even with my very limited knowledge of oils that was my reasoning as well.
Penrite state their product as a fully synthetic GL4 so I will chuck it in and see how we go.
The box has always baulked going from first to second when cold but only for a couple of minutes so time will tell.

    Cheers,
    Paul

I recently changed all my oils to Penrite, including the R380 to Penrite Manual Gear 70. So far it's been great. No real difference to before - still smooth and no concerns.

I purchased online from Motofluid. Cheapest price I could find and delivery cost was reasonable.

I have Penrite sin in my R380 at the moment, works well and i would not hesitate to use it again, it shifts beautifully. (by the way my box is 450k old and never been apart). I am going to try a synthetic Fuchs next though as it is one i have not tried before.

My mate back in NSW uses Penrite in his box with 350,000k's on it and I use Redline MTL in mine with 450,000k's and both work fine without the 2nd gear grate so either is my choice. Pat
