considering pretty much any off the shelf center is going to be hypoid, I personally would look for something with good ratio availabilty, good locker options and good axle size options..Im guessing off the top of my head the aftermarket ford 9 would fill this part. Id get custom housings to bolt into the rover made by someone like Ruffstuff specialties, running modded rover hubs and stub axles for 35 spline Hi-tough axles. Ashcroft have addressed the ARB locking collar problems with the ford 9....CVs id look at toyota 80 series...Im still thinking with some little machine work they can be made to fit in a coiler swivel :confused:

And you are surprised that the Leyland Brothers broke things?

Even their own Club the LROC Newcastle Branch were embarrassed about having them as members.

BTW you never saw the support crew who did most of their repairs off camera.

If I was going on an outback trip,I've done a few,the diffs would be the last thing I would worry about,come to think of it I've never worried about them.Being prepared for outback travel is worrying about good cooling,good fuel,good tyres,shocks,stone protection etc etc,worry about the things that will stock you and not about ''what if's''. Pat

Root diameters and spline pitch design etc, blah blah, plenty of twisted and broken 28 and 24 spline maxi stuff about, including my own.

Good luck finding a broken h260 axle, seen plenty where the hard face cones off the crown wheel though

Hmmm, I see where you are coming from, but the torsional forces are not determined by the cross-sectional area, they are calculated from the surface of the shaft which is where the forces are carried.

is the H260 the leaf sprung version? If so not as many of these being punished as the coil verisons....yep the coil versions have been brakeing stuff, I guess thats why there is aftermarket stuff available. Id say search Outerlimits, but it seems down for the count :confused:

yes Maxi stuff has and will break, it was never ment for 35's...Mal designed all this stuff before even 33s where popular. They have proven themselves more than adequate, even when pushed in competetion....all this is however niether here or there. I simply questioned the statement of "Double" the strength. Posible yes, but Id like to see the tech.

so a larger Dia will transition the forces more smoothly? Are the Nissan OEM axles waisted etc? Are there any specs for force breaking like Ashcroft spec for their shafts?

Yes Nissan are stronger, yes LR diffs are undersized and should have been upgraded years ago.....but then the list only starts there right. BTW the Sals is a good diff, but It would not be my first choice....If I had the choice

We get a lot in the mountainbike world people who like to boast about how much stuff they break. They seem to think it's a badge of honour or a mark of how hard they ride. But it always comes down to riders who are rough, abuse their equipment or just can't set it up for their own use.
There are some serious downsides to Nissan diffs too. Like losing several inches of ground clearance. Fit bigger tyres to get that back and your whole rig is now 6 inches taller. What used to be a 40 deg rollover angle is probably now 30.

4wding isn't much different. Some people can break anything, others break nothing.

It's possible to blow a diff in a grassy paddock. Some lads I know have blown valiant diffs in supermarket carparks.:D

Suffice to say, the image everyone else gets isn't the image they think they portray.
