left hand side front of motor there is a tab that sticks out with the holes a torch helps and you may have to clean around the area this will make it easier and pull the top sound proofing cover off.
Hi All,
Is there a way of ID'ing the correct head gasket needed on a TD5, 2001, Series II, before you teardown the motor?
I know there are these holes (a 1 hole, 2 hole and 3 hole version), on the top right of the gasket that ID's it, but is there a way of telling before I open her up?
Be good to have all the parts together before beginning the job.
Cheers, Pete'

^^ Correct above. Note it may not have any holes though.
I believe the options are 1, 2, 3 or no holes. 1 hole being the thinnest. No holes being the thickest.
I'm sure someone will jump in if I'm wrong...
Hi Pete
I too will be doing my head gasket in the next week or so. What gasket set will you be buying? $120 will get you an ebay set from the UK including postage. They are $300 when i rang around the country here. I think Britcar in Melbourne were the cheapest i could find at $220. I am going with the 3 hole gasket at 1.35mm (thickest) Dont forget you need new head bolts. I bought mine on ebay UK. Half the price of any i could find here.
Here is the link to the gaskets and head bolts if you want to take a look.

In terms of brands, there are a lot of people on here that will only recommend the Elring brand. Search the forums and you'll find plenty of discussion.
Hi Guys,
Got this quote and will be adding a couple of things to it like new water hoses and thermostat.
You'll see it's a pretty good price as once converted, it's only around $356 including delivery and includes a new injector harness and loom from harness back to maf as I got oil that that harness too.
Pete'
