    200TDI Removing Oil Dipstick Tube

Would like to know if undoing the bolt that attaches the dipstick tube to the block will cause oil to drop or is it above level?

Second will it mess with the length of the tube, dipstick reading, olive - or does the bolt stay with the tube so it simply bolts off and back on again with no probs?

I found out that the length from the top of the dipstick receiver to the top of the retainer bracket (disco 200) should be between 48 and 51 mm... just saying

    Help

I'm resurrecting this thread 6 months later, I would have forgotten about it except that it came up #1 on a google search for 'removing 200tdi dipstick'! ... so it could do with some helpful info.

I've finally attempted to take out the dipstick by undoing the nut at the base. To answer my own questions - oil level is below the bolt and the olive seems to stay put so you can easily locate the bolt back to the same position when re-fitting.

I had to remove the intake manifold to allow for the tube to pull up and out. But without any visible restriction it still wont come up and out!?

It comes out a fair bit and then jams. There is not much movement when jiggled, the base of the pipe seems hard pushed against the side of the hole.

Before I get violent with it I need to know what could be holding it in place?

You can see how far out it is in this picture ... the nut is resting in its original position ontop of the olive.

    Yea yea, I'm the dipstick!

I've put it back as it was, I can't pull the tube straight out without removing the exhaust manifold. The tube grips to opposing upper and lower edges of the hole. Its deceiving because of the bends in the tube and extremely limited view/access.

Looking online, new tubes are cheap so I will attempt to get a bolt cutter on it not far above the lock nut and pull it up and out from there.

The whole reason for this is that I need to re position the tube so I can pull the stick out towards the front - due to pending mods (see AC project thread). I will eventually order a new disco 200tdi dipstick tube and also tubes for defender 200 and 300tdi. They are cheap enough and it gives me some options to play with.

    DIPSTICKS
    Def 200TDI - ERC8980 ETC7867
    Disco 200TDI - ERR1248 ERR1103
    300tdi - ERR4697 ERR3809

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has replaced/removed the disco 200tdi dipstick tube without removing the manifold, or if anyone has managed to bend one to new angles?
