Even with dual batteries you run the winch off the main one. This is because the alternator keep the charge topped up. Also a lot of the second batteries are deep cycle which don't provide as big a current kick and run slower.
With the D1 you fit the battery as said earlier in front of the air box. You move the jack and cut off the funnel. You also need to relocate the coil and power steering pump. There are some pictures on here if you search.
