			Steering fluid leak

					Hello all
Having a problem with my steering fluid leaking from somewhere. I intend to fix this problem myself and it will be my mechanical debut. Have owned my disco for 2 years - series 1, '97 diesel auto. It's time I manned up.
I've looked at the following 'how to's'
Replacing power steering pump on Land Rover Discovery I - ExploringNH Forums
How to change the power steering box on a Land Rover - The Land Rover Blog
I've also downloaded the manuals onto my iPad.
My question is this:
Without looking, is it likely that the integrity high of the or low pressure valve/leads is somehow compromised, or would it be likely to be a worn out pump? Is that a silly question?
I guess I won't know until I pull the wheel off and have a look.
Any tips?

Give the engine bay a good wash and clean up - you have to figure out where you leak is first. Since it's a diesel it can handle a bath.
You aren't complaining of oil going everywhere, so it's a presumption that your leak is a slow and gradual one. ( HP hose OK). That said, if it's on the passenger side, then look at the reservoir to pump hose clips and the return line. Those rubber pipes are easy to replace as they are low pressure.
Take the fanbelt off and wriggle the pump pulley. That's a good indicator of the condition of the pump.
If your leak is on the drivers side, then look at the upper ( input) and lower (output) seals. Do-able in situ. Search the forum ( & web) with disco steering box seals - you should find what you need.
