Hub dust caps - rubber or plastic

    Hi all,

This relates to my Disco1 MA model. However I am assuming they are generic across all 94 onwards Disco/Rangie Classic/Defender.

The dust caps on the front hubs are made from rubber on OEM caps but plastic for the aftermarket ones.

I have plastic ones fitted on mine now. The passenger side one is fine after about 12 months. However the driver's side one has just split its third cap. The first one last a month or so. The second one lasted one drive to work before I noticed the split and the third one has started to split after a few days and the car has not moved yet!

The plastic ones were bought from two different countries and about two years apart so I assume they are not from the same bad batch.

So should I just use rubber OEM ones or am I just doing it wrong?

Can you retrofit earlier model steel caps along with the drive flange?

    Thanks

Thanks. They are cheaper at Karcraft though.

I wrapped a split one in duct tape and that seems better. Dodgy but better.
Still have two more plastic ones to use up but would never buy them again.
