hi there
There is a large bearing on the top of the strut it sits right underneath where the strut bolts are in the engine bay you can buy them direct from Holden about 60$ from memory
My wife's Astra has developed a clunking from the front suspension (Macpherson strut I think) The mechanic said something about something on the top of the strut worn. What might this be and is it easily repaired? Jim

It could very well be the sway bar links, a common issue. My wifes astra had this same clunking noise from the front end. The sway bar link is a black plastic rod with a ball joint on each end. The ball joint wears usually from a little water getting in and goes rusty. I replaced these in my wifes astra, a very easy job . I didnt bother with the plastic crappy ones again I bought the steel links from UK as they are the same as a Vauxhall (around $35). I've seen them on ebay here in Oz for $50 for the pair. Have a look behind a front wheel you will see the link from the sway bar going up behind the front wheel drive shaft up to just under the base of the front spring.
