    HID - H7 Hi/Lo Beams

I ordered a HID kit for my RRS that was to have H7 Hi/Lo beam globes in it. I suspect that they included standard single beam H7 HID globes - but not being knowledgeable on such matters I am not sure.

Does anyone know what the proper designator for H7 HID Hi/Lo is? The markings on the ones I have is 45W4300KH7SGCP (of course the instructions are not use as they talk about H4 Hi/Lo not H7s.

    Thanks

H7 hi/low? Do you expect the mail light to change for high beam?

I’m sure the only globe with twin filament is the H4, H7 are all single filament, and the plug will only have 2 wires. The main light is on for Low Beam, selecting high beam just turns the 2nd light on (main light stays the same.) There is 1 H7 globe in each light.

PS. I hope you're not putting a HID kit in the main light, don't get me started there. I've converted the 2nd lights (High Fillers) to HID with stunning results.

There is a growing rage against HIDS lights in some areas... even factory-fitted.

If your RR does not come with HID Low Beam as standard, then you're running foul of the ADR's, and you vehicle becomes unroadworthy.

Do what you like with HIGH beam but leave low-beam to the normal, incandecent bulbs. - Go to "+50" or "+-whaterver" bulbs, cheaper and legal and they are safer for ALL road users. Including you.

You'd be better off having incandescents (normal) in Hi and Lo beams, and put the HID's in spotties or the bumper/underbumper pose lights that ONLY come on with HIGH beam.
Reason:- HID"s take time to warm up ranging from half a second to several, depending on how much you pay for them.

Substituting HID's for normal bulbs in a fitting that's designed for normal bulbs is engineeringly incorrect, dangerous and illegal, not to mention inconsiderate to others.

See the other threads on this subject......

Sorry guys this thread is a technical question concerning a particular Bi Xenon light bulb it is not a soapbox to discuss the moral/legal aspects and the pros and cons of fitting Bi Xenons.

If you wish to discuss the issues associated fitting Xenons start your own thread in the Soapbox.

    Thanks

Back to the actual topic of the thread - issue solved.

The UK threads had indicated that the "projector" light was a hi/lo beam unit with the other lamp being a fill in lamp that only comes on when Hi beam is selected.

    Likewise the Handbook states:

There are three types of headlamp systems (in the RRS):

    1. Halogen high/low beam main lamp with a fill-in high beam lamp alongside.

    2. Bi-Xenon high/low beam main lamp with a fill-in high beam lamp alongside.

    3. An Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)

From all of this I understood the car had Bi- Halogens in the projector lamp and hence the question in the first post about H7 Bi-Xenon bulbs.

Anyhow I had to remove a headlamp to remove a dead spider inside the light and to replace the turn indicator bulb. In there I found that the light bulb was a standard H7 halogen bulb - no Bi-Halogen setup.

So my question is now irrelevant.

    Cheers
