    What Distributor?

    Guys,

The mechanic has mentioned the vaccuum advance on my distributor needs to be replaced.

How do I tell what type/brand of distributor it is so I can get the correct part or doesn't it matter? It does have a Crane Fireball Ignition but I'm not sure about the distributor. It's a low comp engine but apprently has a disc block. So whatever it is will probably not be standard!

Also (because I know nothing...) what effect does the vaccuum advance have when not working?

    TIA
    Stu

The odds are that you have a standard LR V8 electronic dissy. Google Landrover vacuum advance - and then look at images. It's a fairly well known replacement part. A little bit expensive, but available. When the vac unit fails, it throws off the advance curve and the base setting so the engine runs a bit rough and is down on power.
