    Mud Terrain Mileage

What sort of kms are people getting out of their mud terrain tyres? I was looking at getting some 285/75/R16 KM2s but was quoted well over $400 a tyre. I would want at least 70,000km for that price. The other option is running two sets, keeping the muddies for play (but would get 15 inch rims then ) and running highway terrains on the boost alloys most of the time. I drive mostly on the bitumen.

Gday JC. i have just bought a set of 6 goodyear wrangler silent armour. they were recommended by a mate who is in the tyre game and he has done 60k on his and still plenty of tread. he has done lots of offroad and onroad. They are quite and have an agressive tread pattern. they are deigned 50/50 on/off road.just a suggestion.
i have put em on my 96 110 def. i havent done lots of ks with em yet but on the highway doing 110k/hour, smooth ride and you can get them fitted for around $300 each.
i am looking forward to putting them under the pump to see how they perform.
i also have a second hand set of 235/85r16 km2s in the shed. i picked them up from one of the aulro members and will use them for a bit of fun i suppose. if i purchased the goodyears first i wouldnt have bought the muddies.

I cannot comment from experience as my KM2s have only done about 600kms so far. I researched tyres for about 6 months before buying and based on that research the KM2s will last longer than most muddies and will last as long as most ATs. The estimation was between 40,000kms and 70,000kms - remember they are muddies. Mickey Thompson's etc were generally less but there are always the exceptions.

I think you need to look further for pricing though - if I were in Sydney I could have bought 315/75 16s for $410 and in Canberra paid the same sort of price you are looking at for your much smaller tyres.

Get a set of Cooper's they have a 70,000klm warranty, that is if you live in the city and never go outside the metro area or heaven forbid go off-road, LOL, Regards Frank.
