    Car Jacks SWL

I have car jacks with a SWL of 1524Kgs.
My Disco weight at the front jacking point reg isters 825Kgs. Therefore I assume I can rest the front of the car on the two stands with safety.Being non technical I would be grateful if this makes sense from a mechanical point of view.

    You've got it in one
Check each stand to make sure the base, pins and holes are in good condition first.
If your using a trolly jack chock the rear wheels.
If using a bottle jack leave it out of gear with the hand brake off, chock the wheels allowing up to 70mm of rolling room(move them in thight when on the stands).
Once the Disco is on the stands take the weight off the jack and give the rig a shake/woble to make sure things don't move.
    Cheers, Kyle

    correct...

its not always avoidable or achievable on a disco but dont raise one side of the vehicle then put it on the stand then do the same on the other side. Try to jack the whole vehicle up then lower it onto both stands at once.

Ditto about chocking the tyres from the comment above.

Set the stands as low as is practicable for the job at hand

if you take the wheels off place them under the vehicle in line with the chassis cross member under the bell housing and the chassis rail, If you need to be working under there slide the tyres under the axle or the steering guard.

Make sure someone knows you're under the vehicle and to at least be alert for any sudden noise and/or lack of swearing. As a rough rule of thumb if you have a vehicle sitting on your rib cage you will exhale 1-3 times and then have about 2 minutes before you begin to asphyxiate because the weight of the vehicle stopping your ribs from expanding.

Isnt it better to allow the car to move (unbraked) when using a trolley jack as sometimes the jack wheels cant move due to a pebble or crack in the concrete etc? Obviously chock the wheels of car when jacked.
