New style Hub nuts vs 2 Old nuts & washer

I don't like the New style hub nuts on my Defender, The single piece ones with the flange that you hammer down onto the axle flat. (from 98 on)

Its not so easy to just nip up a wheel bearing, Those nuts are putting me off from servicing my bearings

Why did they move from the two nuts & a lock washer??

I want to replace mine all with the old style twin nuts & a lock washer FTC3179, will also need 4 key washers FTC5241, does anyone know if there a retro kit available ?

Anyone think this is not a good idea ??
Granted I don't think the Flat on the RRC-110 stub axle is not as good as the keyway on the series 1 -3 models.

I ordered new bearings, 8 nuts and 4 washers, and 4 oil seals(the double-lipped ones) when I had my defender, and converted to oil lubed bearings.
The parts were cheap from someone in Tassie.

If you're a bit tight and are prepared to grind off the bit that you bend down on the new style nuts, you only need to buy 4 of the old style (thinner) nuts, plus 4 lock washers of course. There's enough thread on the stub axle to fit one of the newer thick nuts, a lock washer and one of the thinner old style nuts.

Job done for about half the cost.

Now go and buy yourself a drink or two for being so thrifty.
