    TD5 02 LOSING POWER WHEN TOWING

    HI I OWN A 2002 SERIES 2 DISCO HAVING TROUBLE LOSING POWER WHEN I TOW OUR CARAVAN ITS ONLY GOT A TARE OF 1150 DON,T CARRY IN IT. JUST HAD AUTO REBUILT [BROKE THE CENTRE OUT OF CONVERTER] WHEN I START OFF ITS NOT TO BAD BUT WHEN I SLOW DOWN OR STOP AT A INTERSECTION IT WON,T GET GET BACK UP TO SPEED ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS

    I can't help you with the problem with the Disco, but I can help you avoid upsetting people.

    Typing all upper case on forums is pretty universally interpreted as shouting. It is considered impolite.

    It is also harder to read.

    In spite of all that, I'm sure someone her will help you sort out the Disco.

    It could be a single thing or a combination of things wrong. Here's what i'd check.
    You say you have just had the auto rebuilt, take it back to them to make sure it is working properly.
    Then, I'd check the Intercooler/turbo hoses for leaks/delamination, check condition of the air filter, check wastegate on turbo and boost pressure (make sure its not stuck open) check exhaust manifold studs, turbo boost modulator may be playing up, buggered MAF sensor, or the fuel pump may be on the way out.
    Dont get too worried, use this as a process of elimination.

    Rod, in addition to the above, check all exhaust gaskets for signs of leakage (soot) escaping exhaust will rob pressure from the turbo and therefore boost drops.

    My bet's the MAF. But having said that, does the engine get very hot at the same time it loses power?

    Thanks pete for that no it dosn,t get at all its good that way wher is the maf sensor located

    HI robbo thanks for the replybeen back to auto place all good there.intercooler seems ok and hoses& air filter ,fuel filter all newbut have been thinking of checking wastegate vehicle seems to have plenty of go without van on

    stall check...

    stick it in D lock up the brakes and nail the noiesy pedal...

    let us know what the tacho rolls up to and stabalises at (dont do this for more than 10 seconds, you will broil the auto.)
