    Timing Covers

    Hi

Will a timing cover off a GEMS engine (disco 2, p38 etc) fit a p76 block? I beleive the sumps are different, will a gems sump fit?

I am planning out a serpentine belt driven p76 engine with rover heads and a thor inlet manifold for my mongol project...

Sump is the same bolt pattern, front cover is the same bolt pattern. Oil pump conversion will require a different ketway in the crank, length may be an issue, other issues such as dowel sizes may need some minor work. Remember P76 heads don't have any of the Rover accessory mounting bolt holes, you will need to fit the Rover heads.

I did have a 3.9 serp timing cover that i was going to fit on a 4.4 and physically it did fit fine, if you got the keyway elongated on the crank with a suitable sized key it would would work - i sold my rangie so never went ahead with it.

It might be hard to fit a distributor too seeing as the D2/P38 doesn't have one.
