Air locker & tyre pump compressor

Hi guys, I've done a couple of searches but can't find anything on this, hence the question. I'm getting an arb air locker installed in a salisbury diff and have a pretty good compressor I use for my tyres. I want to use it for both tyres and the locker and don't have any real idea on how to configure the hoses and switches. I guess I'll install a T junction so air will flow to the locker and tyres at the same time. I assume that if I want to inflate my tyres, then the locker will engage but once I turn the compressor off, the locker will disengage (is that logical or true?). If I only want the locker I won't have the air line for the tyres connected so air will only go to the locker.
Do I need an air tank for the compressor to use with the locker? What turns the compressor off once the locker is engaged? I'll stop typing as the more keys I hit, the more I realise I don't know what to do.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    cheers gerald

    Air locker/compressor

    Hi,

If you wire the same as the ARB air locker then you will have two switches, one for the compressor operation and one for the air locker via a solenoid. that way you can use the compressor independently of the lockers. You will get a solenoid and switch as part of the locker kit. Also there will be a wiring diagram in the kit as well

    Cheers, Nino

I do not know much about such set ups, but can you get a tap to put in the air lines that would turn of the air where you did not want it??? Just wondering.

The genuine ARB locker for use with the lockers has a very small tank on top of it which helps keep the air pressure up to the locker - once charged up with compressed air the air compressor switches off and only comes back on when/if pressure drops.

If using another air compressor an air tank is normally used but with the right valves it may not be needed - just means the air compressor might run a bit more than normal.

Yes you can, you just need to decide whether you want to just shut off the airflow or shut off the airflow and exhaust the downstream pressure (2/2 or 3/2 valve).
