Thread: VDO electronic speedo install

I would think a VDO electronic speedo would have frequency adjustments to suit most pulse inputs.

You can work out the pulse frequency needed .

I started to write down all the formulae but I think the easiest way would be to get a GPS, connect the speedo to the pulse generator and compare the speeds .
If the speedo reads an incorrect speed then there will probably be dip switches or a rheostat to correct the speed.
Read the instructions for the speedo carefully then perhaps you will be in a better position to ask questions.

Got any pics of your new instruments? As much as I like the look of the original instruments, they are vague at best.

I have not bought anything yet. I wanted to make sure it was possible or find someone else who had installed one first.

And PhilipA, I think the best time to ask questions is before a project even starts! Maybe it's just me, but you often really come across as a grumpy old man!

I put a VDO electronic in the 6x6. Pretty straight forward. To calibrate I got my mate the local cop to mark out a measured kilometer on a straight bit of bitumin road and used the" set " instructions. It worked out spot on.
Only problem with it after 8 years the window that records the kays started an intermittant problem with the display. It was going to cost more to fix than a new one so I forked out and they preset it with the kays I had done on the old one.

I love the max revs of 4000!

GPS speedo. no hook up problems.

You are right Dave, and that is what I use now, but might make it hard to get a RWC without a working speedo.
