    R380 Oil Leaks

    Got a small issue with a Oil Leak that is coming from the gear lever! on top of the box. Have cleaned everything up and put some silicone gasket on the housing, but it seems to be coming from where the lever comes out of the box. Doesn't seem like a lot, but builds up over time.
    Anyone have this problem???

    Since it's probable that you have a Disco 1, then it's either a blocked breather pipe or a case of a loose top cover for the gearbox. A simple remove-seal-replace in situ job ( provided that you've swapped the rivets for screws for the gearstick gaiter). The only hitch is that you have to bend up part of the transmission tunnel a little to get the first cover off.

    Have done everything mentioned including getting rid of the stupid pop riverts. Have replaced with speed nuts and screws. Console still out of car to monitor the oil leak. Will check the breather/s

    All I can say is: Whatever it is, fix it, and fix it soon. The things are very expensive if they run out of oil.

    Just to clarify- the top cover is officially the 'gear change housing', that which the gearstick sits in. The box on top of it (the gear change housing cover) is less likely to leak, even with it's rubber gasket. It's that plate that can leak if it gets a bit loose.

    You have a leak on the selector shaft. I am going through the same thing at the min...
    Its a perished O-ring (part no-FRC4951) EASY FIXED
